Prenatal Consults
1. Preview medical history and any concerns that needs to be addressed. This is especially important for women who have or has had:

Breast surgery.

Nipples that are flat or invert.

PCOS, GDM, thyroid disease or infertility issues.

Previous lactation failures.
-
Planned c-section or induction. ​

2. Provide breastfeeding education for entire family.
​
3. Develop a feeding plan based on the families breastfeeding goals.
When to Call a Lactation Consultant
-
Difficulty with Latch.
-
Concerns with milk supply.
-
Breast or nipple pain.
-
Engorgement.
-
Infant has inadequate or slow weight gain.
-
Previous negative breastfeeding experience.
-
Reassurance breastfeeding is going well.
-
Infant in NICU.
-
Recommended formula supplementation.
-
Pre-term labor and delivery.
