Prenatal Consults 

1. Preview medical history and any concerns that needs to be addressed. This is especially important for women who have or has had: 

  • Breast surgery.

  • Nipples that are flat or invert.

  • PCOS, GDM, thyroid disease or infertility issues. 

  • Previous lactation failures. 

  • Planned c-section or induction. â€‹

2. Provide breastfeeding education for entire family. 

​

3. Develop a feeding plan based on the families breastfeeding goals. 

When to Call a Lactation Consultant

  • Difficulty with Latch. 

  • Concerns with milk supply.

  • Breast or nipple pain.

  • Engorgement.

  • Infant has inadequate or slow weight gain.

  • Previous negative breastfeeding experience. 

  • Reassurance breastfeeding is going well.

  • Infant in NICU.

  • Recommended formula supplementation.

  • Pre-term labor and delivery.
